Coleen

While living and working in New York, I cut a picture out of the NYTimes. It was a black and white jewelry advertisement. I think the woman had on a bracelet and a ring. It was black and white because I am old. Well, that isn't actually the reason, at that particuar time in history, newspapers did not "do" color yet. ( If you don't remember a time when all newspapers were black and white only... don't talk to me.)
So, I liked this woman's face and hands and used her photo as my model.
The drawing was first done with a very fine pen and brown ink. Then I used a light wash of watercolor; then Prismacolor pencils; and finally, gouache.
